The benefits of street lights being converted to energy-saving LEDs

378 street lights in Ann Arbor were converted to energy-saving LEDs

Ann Arbor and DTE Energy are taking steps to convert another 378 street lights into energy-saving LEDs. The City Council voted 9 to 0 this week to approve $65,354 in exchange for a share of the cost of more mercury vapor street lights in cities owned and maintained by DTE.

City officials said that this investment should pay back in about a year and a half, because the city will receive financial benefits related to reduced energy consumption from more efficient lighting.
